Anyone know where I can get plans or just drawings or something for a Martin 00-14?? (and possibly 12), it's my next model I'm adding and I want to go over some the dimensions to get an idea of how to make my jigs...

Hi Paul

I have an OO and O in my range and maybe the market is different your side of the pond, but I find in these smaller bodied models the 12 fret sells much better than the 14.

I have plans for a OO 12 Fret if you need them.

How much difference is there in the body shape between the two, this is a new area for me, I've been doing OM's, dreads and classicals up to this point...

It is not huge the body is about 2 Inchs longer to accomodate the extra length in the fretboard extension.

Paul, it's the same difference as between the Martin 14 fret OM and the 12 fret 000. I have a tracing of the 00-12 fret. I got mine from Hank Mauel and I think he has a tracing of the 14 fret version as well. They don't have a bracing layout but I just made up my own anyway. How long is the body on the 00-12??

I'm getting a set of molds from John Hall, most builders have their own OO size of sorts, I thought the 00-14 was the later more modern version?? am I wrong?

The 00-14 was probably the later version just as the OM-14 came after the 000-12. If your getting molds from John then I'd just wait till you get them and use that outline to design your bracing and other such parameters, then you'll know it'll all fit.

John I may just have to come out and visit you at some point, the problem is I'd buy something and then wreck my rep as a builder, I REALLY REALLY liked the one with the wood inlay around the top you had at the show, by far my favorite of all the ones I saw!!

I was going to do my own bracing anyway, I really just wanted to make sure I had the sound hole correctly positioned and I could figure out the rest. I'll PM you my address and we can work something out, I can ask Hank as well about the 00-14 and see if he has a drawing. I need to make up my mind before I send my money off to JH...

I have a bending form from John Hall and a plan which was a survey of a Martin OO 45 and there is a slight variation, I guess even Martin probably changed the shape slightly over the years.

The 12 fret version I make is 102mm to the front of the soundhole, the soundhole is 97mm in diameter.

Excuse the metric but I wanted to be sure I gave you the correct measurements and I'm not too good with imperial.

It is a 24.9" Scale and I only use 19 Frets.

The OO 14 is 34mm shorter than the OO 12

Most 12 and 14 fretters differ to the stretch of the body to grab that 12th fret. Martin didn't have the tight specs prior to the 60's like they do know. I have seen martin's differ by as much as 1/4 " from the specs today.

I think the Plan I have is a Survey of a very old one so I think that is what it is.

I made my templates and Molds off your bending forms so it is not an issue at all.
